Radecic named 2017 Penn State Outstanding Engineering Alumnus

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Scott Radecic (’86 B.A.E.), senior principal at Populous, has been named a 2017 Outstanding Engineering Alumnus by the Penn State College of Engineering.
The Penn State Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed by the college and recognizes graduates who have reached exceptional levels of professional achievement.
Radecic, along with 11 other honorees, will receive his award at a ceremony on April 20 at the Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State’s University Park campus.
For more than 24 years, Radecic has been an industry leader in the programming and design of sports facilities. His unique experience as a collegiate and professional athlete, combined with his expertise in architectural engineering has made him a trusted advisor to collegiate and professional teams across the nation.
A native of Brentwood, Pennsylvania, Radecic was a member of the Nittany Lion football team from 1980 to 1984 and was drafted in 1984 by the Kansas City Chiefs. He went on to play for the Buffalo Bills and the Indianapolis Colts until retiring from professional play in 1997. Radecic began his career at HOK Sport, now Populous, part time while still playing for the Colts, then transitioned to full time after his retirement from the NFL in 1997.
As a senior principal with Populous, Radecic serves as a member of the firm’s Board of Directors and is the director of its NFL and collegiate marketplaces. He focuses on the strategic project development, strategic planning, design, budgeting and project management for sporting facilities.
Since joining Populous, Radecic has worked with 10 NFL teams and more than 50 colleges and universities across the nation. Recent projects include the New Era Field renovations for the Buffalo Bills, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Amphitheater & Indoor Flex Field Project, the new Champion Center for the University of Colorado, TCF Bank Stadium for the University of Minnesota, the new on-campus stadium for Colorado State University and the HarborCenter hockey training and mixed-use project in Buffalo, New York.
Recently, Radecic worked on Populous’ partnership with Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics to program, develop, and produce a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan that addresses the needs of Nittany Lion athletes, coaches and fans for the next 20 years.
Throughout his career, Radecic has been recognized for his talents in both football and architectural engineering. In 1989, he was named the one of the NFL’s Most Underrated Players by Sports Illustrated. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. In 2001, Radecic was named to Street and Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal’s 40 Under 40 and was recognized in its Power Players listing for 2016.
Radecic lives in Mission Hills, Kansas. He has two children, Matthew and Taylor, and three grandchildren, Reagan, Rory and Khylin.
